Choose an outdoor rug by measuring the usable patio space and checking the individual rug's care label. Material alone does not establish waterproofing, colour resistance or whether it can be folded.
Measure the layout you actually use
- Mark the proposed rug footprint with tape. Open doors and walk around the furniture before choosing a size.
- For dining, pull every chair back as if someone were getting up. Measure that footprint rather than relying on a universal size for six seats.
- For a seating area, decide whether all legs or only the front legs should sit on the rug. Keep access routes and drainage points clear.
- Check the units on the listing: feet, inches and centimetres are not interchangeable.
Compare construction and care
Look for an explicit outdoor-use description, the backing material, storage instructions and the maker's cleaning method. A reversible pattern does not itself prove UV resistance. Fab Habitat's Mesa polypropylene rug, for example, has its own hose-cleaning and drying instructions; do not transfer these to rugs with a different backing or integrated electrical lighting.
Shortlist by footprint
Compare the listed dimensions of the SAND MINE 8 × 8 ft rug and SAND MINE 9 × 12 ft rug, then check the complete specification and care advice. These are size examples, not a promise that either fits your patio.
