VITA BEEHEALTH Apiguard 3kg Tub is a large, ready-to-use thymol treatment designed to control varroa mites in honey bee colonies while being simple to apply and gentle on bees.
Apiguard uses plant-derived thymol as its active ingredient, presented here in a 3 kg tub that includes a syringe and dosing cards for accurate application. This bulk format is suited to beekeepers who manage multiple hives or prefer to portion treatments themselves rather than using pre-filled trays. The gel formula volatilises at hive temperatures to create an environment hostile to varroa mites without forcing intrusive handling of frames.
The thymol in Apiguard slowly vaporises when placed in the brood box, dispersing a consistent, measurable concentration throughout the colony. This sustained exposure targets phoretic and some reproductive mite stages while allowing bees to continue normal activity. Application timing and dose control are important to achieve effective mite reduction while maintaining colony welfare.
Timing depends on local climate, brood patterns and honey-flow; many beekeepers apply thymol treatments in late summer or early autumn when brood levels fall and before overwintering. Avoid applying during strong nectar flows or extreme heat, as high hive temperatures can increase product evaporation. Follow local guidance and the included dosing instructions for safest timing.
The tub supplies bulk gel plus a syringe and dosing cards so you can portion treatments per hive size and colony strength. Typical application involves placing measured gel on a dosing card or directly on top bars, ensuring even distribution and minimal disturbance. Always use personal protection when handling concentrated thymol and store the tub sealed between uses.
When used as directed, Apiguard is formulated to minimise negative impact on foragers and the queen. Beekeepers often avoid treatments during peak nectar flows to reduce risk of thymol traces in extracted honey. Observing label wait periods and best-practice extraction timing helps protect honey quality and colony productivity.
Who is this for? The VITA BEEHEALTH Apiguard 3kg Tub is aimed at hobbyist and professional beekeepers managing multiple colonies who want a plant-based thymol solution in a bulk, cost-effective format. It suits users comfortable with measuring doses and applying gel with provided tools, and those integrating non-synthetic options into their varroa management plans. If you prefer pre-filled trays rather than bulk dosing, consider smaller packaging alternatives; otherwise, this tub offers flexibility and economies of scale for larger operations.
