Apiguard is a ready-to-use thymol gel pack from VITA BEEHEALTH that delivers slow-release, brood-safe control of Varroa mites when used as directed.
Maintaining healthy hives starts with effective Varroa management; this pack contains ten 50 g thymol gel trays formulated for steady evaporation of thymol over several weeks. The gel is pre-dosed, easy to place above brood frames, and was developed from field-tested protocols used across hundreds of colonies. It’s intended as part of an integrated pest management plan—simple to apply and designed to minimize disturbance to bees while reducing mite pressure.
Application is straightforward: remove the tray lid, place the gel side up on top of the brood frames, and leave it to evaporate thymol slowly. For most hives the recommended rate is two units per colony; placement and timing depend on local conditions and manufacturer guidance. Avoid treatments under extreme heat and follow safety instructions to protect handlers.
Thymol is a plant-derived compound that evaporates from the gel and creates an environment that reduces mite populations without harsh synthetic chemicals. The gel formulation is made for gradual release so bees and brood are not abruptly exposed to concentrated crystals. When used according to instructions, it’s widely accepted by beekeepers as a lower-stress option for colony treatments.
A single 50 g tray releases thymol over several weeks; using two trays per hive provides the recommended exposure for effective control. Treatment duration and frequency vary by mite pressure, season, and local regulations—monitor mite levels to decide whether additional rounds are needed. Combining monitoring with targeted treatments helps prevent overuse and supports long-term hive health.
Yes—Apiguard is intended to be one tool among monitoring, good hive management, and complementary treatments when necessary. Regular inspections, hygienic queens, timely winter management, and rotation of treatment types reduce the chance of resistance and maintain colony resilience. Use Apiguard according to best-practice schedules and record its use to optimize long-term control.
Who is this for: Beekeepers—hobbyist to commercial—seeking a plant-based, pre-dosed Varroa treatment that is simple to apply and backed by large-scale field experience. Apiguard suits those who prefer a measured, slow-release thymol option that integrates easily into routine hive maintenance, especially where brood-safe, low-disturbance measures are a priority. Review local regulations and the product label for permitted use in your area before applying.
Q: How many trays per hive should I use?
A: Use two 50 g trays per standard colony unless local guidance specifies otherwise.
Q: Is Apiguard safe to use when honey supers are on?
A: Avoid applying Apiguard with honey supers in place; follow label instructions for super-free use.
