These pre-measured TruSpike fertilizer stakes from The Old Farmer's Almanac deliver 10-4-10 nutrition directly to evergreen and ornamental shrub root zones for simple, no-mess feeding.
Keep evergreens, firs and ornamental shrubs healthy without guesswork: each durable spike contains a balanced 10-4-10 formula plus magnesium and is driven into the soil to feed roots where it matters. The patented TruSpike design resists breaking and dust, so a quick hammer-in gives season-long nutrient release and minimizes runoff compared with granular fertilizers.
Application is designed to be fast and tool-friendly: no measuring, no mixing, and no caps to remove. Just position the spike near the root zone and tap it into the ground with a hammer until the top is near soil level. Because the TruSpike is solid and durable, it won’t crumble under impact, making installation cleaner and quicker than crumbly spikes.
Each spike delivers a 10-4-10 NPK ratio—higher nitrogen and potassium with moderate phosphorus—to support needle and foliage color, root strength, and reproductive growth such as cones or blooms. The spikes also include supplemental magnesium to assist in maintaining healthy green foliage. Because nutrients are released at the root zone, plants can access them more efficiently than surface-applied products.
Yes—pre-measured spikes are placed directly into the root zone so nutrients are released where roots can take them up, reducing surface loss and runoff common with broadcast fertilizers. The solid TruSpike construction minimizes crumbling or dust, preventing granular scatter and helping ensure the intended dose reaches the plant. This targeted approach also simplifies timing and helps avoid accidental over-application.
For most climates and species, apply spikes twice yearly—once in early spring and once in late fall—to support seasonal growth cycles. In regions with intense summer heat or for plants under extra stress, a mid-summer application can help maintain vigor. Always follow spacing and quantity guidance suited to each tree or shrub size to avoid overfertilizing.
Who is this product for: Gardeners, landscapers and property owners who prefer low-mess, pre-measured fertilizing solutions will appreciate these TruSpikes. They suit anyone caring for evergreen trees, conifers, firs and ornamental shrubs who wants straightforward application, precise dosing at the roots, and a durable spike that won’t crumble under use. Made in the USA and sold as a 12-spike pack (3.0 lbs total), this item is intended for seasonal maintenance of landscape evergreens rather than rapid correction of severe nutrient deficiencies.
Corn Gluten Meal, Urea, Muriate of Potash, Superphosphoric Acid, Potassium Polyphosphate, Calcined Brucite, Ammonium Phosphate.
Q: Can I use one spike per small shrub or do I need more?
A: Small shrubs typically need one spike each; larger shrubs and trees require multiple spikes spaced around the root zone based on size.
Q: Are these spikes safe to use near lawns and flower beds?
A: Yes—when inserted in the root zone, spikes reduce surface runoff and limit fertilizer contact with adjacent lawn and beds.
