ThagBrco Hedge Trimmer Compatible with Makita 18V — 22-inch Tool-Only, Brushless & Lightweight

ThagBrco Hedge Trimmer is a lightweight, battery-powered 22-inch hedge trimmer designed to accept Makita 18V batteries (battery not included) for precise, dual-action cutting of shrubs and small branches.

This cordless hedge trimmer is built for homeowners who want a compact, efficient tool that pairs with existing Makita 18V batteries (BL1820, BL1830, BL1840, BL1850, BL1840B, BL1850B, BL1860B, etc.). It uses a brushless motor and dual-action blades to deliver cleaner, steadier cuts while keeping overall weight low at about 4.8 lbs. The unit includes safety features such as a dual-switch start system to reduce accidental activation.

How powerful and effective is the cutting performance?

The ThagBrco trimmer uses a brushless motor reaching up to 1600 rpm and a 22-inch dual-action blade to slice both forward and backward for neater hedge faces. The blade spacing and motion allow precise trimming and reduce vibration for straighter lines and less plant damage.

• 22-inch dual-action steel blades for cleaner cuts
• 3/5 inch (≈6 mm) tooth spacing supports branches up to 0.6 inch thickness
• Brushless motor runs up to 1600 rpm for efficient cutting
• Reduced vibration for smoother operation and cleaner edges

Will it work with my existing Makita batteries and what’s included?

This model is supplied as the tool head only; batteries and charger are not included. It is compatible with a wide range of Makita 18V battery packs, letting you reuse batteries you already own to save cost and simplify charging routines.

• Compatible with Makita 18V series batteries (BL1820–BL1860B series and similar)
• Tool-only package — batteries and charger must be purchased separately if needed
• Simple slide-in battery mount for quick battery swaps during extended jobs

How comfortable and safe is it to use for regular yard work?

Weighing about 4.8 lbs, this hedge trimmer is lighter than many full-size models, which reduces arm fatigue during extended trimming. A dual-switch safety system requires simultaneous presses to start the tool, minimizing accidental starts for safer storage and handling.

• Lightweight design suited for longer sessions and overhead work
• Dual-switch activation prevents unintentional starts
• Balanced grip and compact form support better maneuverability around tight hedges
• Ideal for users seeking less strenuous trimming, including seniors and those with limited strength

How do I maintain the blades and extend tool life?

Keep the blades clean, lightly lubricated, and free of debris to maintain cutting efficiency. Periodic sharpening and checking fasteners will keep the trimmer operating smoothly and safely season after season.

• Wipe resin and sap from blades after each use to prevent sticking
• Apply a light coat of blade oil or lubricant periodically
• Inspect and tighten screws and guard fittings before each use
• Sharpen blades as needed or replace if nicked or damaged

Who is this for? The ThagBrco Cordless Hedge Trimmer is aimed at homeowners, landscapers with Makita battery inventories, and anyone wanting a lightweight, precise hedge trimmer without purchasing a new battery ecosystem. It suits routine hedge shaping, topiary work, and light branch pruning up to roughly 0.6 inch diameter. If you already own Makita 18V batteries and want a compact, efficient trimmer that reduces fatigue and improves finish, this tool is a practical addition to your garden kit.
