ST. GABRIEL Milky Spore 80010-9 is a soil-applied biological treatment that targets Japanese beetle grubs and other specified beetle larvae to reduce future adult infestations.
If you’re managing a lawn, garden beds, or turf area and want a low-toxicity, long-term approach to beetle grub control, this Milky Spore formulation offers a targeted option made in the United States. Packaged for consumer use, it’s applied to the soil where the natural bacterium persists and infects the larvae that would become damaging adult beetles. This product is designed to integrate into an integrated pest management plan rather than act as a quick knockdown insecticide.
Milky spore contains a Bacillus-like bacterium that specifically infects the soil-dwelling larval stage of Japanese beetles. When grubs ingest the spores, the bacteria multiply inside them and eventually reduce grub survival, which decreases the number of adults emerging the following seasons. Effects accumulate over time as the spore level in the soil builds.
Application is straightforward: spread the granules evenly over the affected area according to the product’s label directions, then water lightly to move spores into the root zone. Best results come from applying when grubs are active and close to the soil surface—typically late summer to early fall for many regions. Reapplication may be recommended to establish spores in new or previously untreated soil.
Milky spore products are generally considered low-risk because they target specific beetle larvae and do not act as broad-spectrum chemical insecticides. They are not systemic or fumigant treatments and are applied to the soil rather than sprayed on foliage. Nevertheless, always follow the product label for safety precautions and keep pets and children away until the area is settled.
Results are typically gradual: reductions in adult beetle numbers may be noticeable after one or more seasons as spore levels build in the soil. The benefit of Milky Spore is its potential longevity—once established, spores can remain active for several years, offering ongoing suppression without frequent retreatments. However, initial establishment can take time and may require patience and monitoring.
Who is this for: ST. GABRIEL Milky Spore 80010-9 is suited to homeowners, lawn care enthusiasts, and professional landscapers looking for a targeted, biologically based option to reduce Japanese beetle grub populations in turf and garden soils. Choose this product if you prefer a soil-applied, low-toxicity approach and are prepared to monitor results over multiple seasons rather than expecting immediate adult beetle knockdown.
Product facts: made in the United States; package dimensions 12.7" L x 12.7" W x 22.35" H; package weight 13.6 ounces; product type: OUTDOOR LIVING. Always read and follow label directions before use.
Q: Can I apply Milky Spore with my regular spreader?
A: Yes. Broadcast the granules evenly with a spreader set for granular lawn products, then water lightly to move spores into the soil.
Q: How soon will I see fewer adult Japanese beetles?
A: Reduction is gradual; many users notice fewer adults after one or more seasons as soil spore levels build.
