Proven Winners Red Pillar is a narrow, column-form rose of Sharon that delivers bold red, bullseye-style blooms in tight spaces.
Red Pillar (Hibiscus syriacus ‘GFNHSRP’) is a compact, upright rose of Sharon bred to grow tall without spreading wide, letting you add vivid summer-to-fall color where traditional shrubs won’t fit. It ships dormant in winter or early spring and is hardy across a broad range of climates, making it a versatile choice for containers, small gardens, or framing entrances. Heat-, drought-, and salt-tolerant, this plant also attracts pollinators while resisting deer browsing.
Red Pillar is columnar, reaching a mature height between 120 and 192 inches while staying relatively narrow at 48–60 inches wide. That upright habit lets you place it in tighter beds, beside patios, or in containers without overpowering the space.
Red Pillar blooms from spring through fall in full sun to part shade, providing a long season of showy flowers. It tolerates heat, drought, and salt, so it performs well in coastal yards, sunny landscapes, and low-water gardens.
The slim, upright shape makes this hibiscus ideal for narrow beds, flanking entryways, or planted as a vertical accent. It also adapts well to large containers, giving you the same bold flower display on patios, balconies, or other small spaces.
Large, red bullseye blooms draw bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds, supporting pollinators through its long flowering period. Red Pillar has good resistance to deer, reducing damage in areas where deer browse is a concern.
Who this plant is for: gardeners who need vertical color without a wide footprint, homeowners with limited planting space, or anyone wanting pollinator-friendly blooms in coastal or drought-prone yards. Red Pillar works well for container gardeners, entryway designers, and landscape plans that require tall, columnar accents. If you’re in USDA zones 5a–9b and want a low-maintenance, long-blooming shrub that saves space while attracting wildlife, this Proven Winners selection is tailored for that need.
Q: What USDA zones can Red Pillar grow in?
A: Red Pillar thrives in USDA zones 5a through 9b.
Q: Does Red Pillar need full sun or shade?
A: It prefers full sun to part shade and blooms best with several hours of sun daily.
