Nelson NutriStar 9-13-11 is a specialized granular fertilizer formulated to feed acid-loving shrubs and lower alkaline soils for healthier blooms and deeper green foliage.
This premium blend from PREMIUM CRAFTED EST. 1983 NELSON PLANT FOOD combines multiple slow-release nitrogen forms, several acidifying ingredients and three iron sources so acid-preferring plants like azaleas, camellias and gardenias get sustained nutrition without root burn. Designed to both supply essential N-P-K and gently reduce soil pH, the formula supports steady growth and richer leaf color across seasons.
NutriStar delivers a balanced N-P-K ratio (9-13-11) plus iron and organic feed to promote flower production while enhancing leaf color. The phosphate supports bud and root development, potassium aids overall vigor, and iron sources prevent chlorosis in alkaline soils.
Yes — the blend contains four acidifying components that gradually lower soil pH to create a friendlier environment for acid-preferring plants. This avoids abrupt pH swings while delivering micronutrients made more available at lower pH levels.
The fertilizer uses microbial and slow-release nitrogen sources such as ureaform and cottonseed meal to feed plants steadily rather than all at once. That controlled release lowers the chance of salt buildup or root burn, making it safer for established and recently planted shrubs.
Apply according to plant size and season: typically a light feed in early spring and again in mid-summer for steady growth and bloom support. Always follow label directions for rates and timing to match the needs of azaleas, camellias, gardenias and similar species.
Who is this for: NutriStar 9-13-11 is intended for gardeners and landscapers who cultivate acid-tolerant ornamentals—azaleas, camellias, gardenias, hydrangeas, magnolias, dogwoods, jasmines and similar plants—especially where soil tends toward neutral or alkaline. It’s a practical choice for people who want a single product that combines acidifying action, available iron and slow-release nutrition so their shrubs gradually improve in health and appearance with consistent use.
Q: Can I use NutriStar on hydrangeas?
A: Yes. NutriStar supports hydrangeas and other acid-loving plants; it supplies phosphorus and iron while gently lowering soil pH.
Q: Is this safe for newly planted shrubs?
A: Yes. Slow-release nitrogen and organic cottonseed meal reduce root burn risk, but follow label rates for young plants.
