Marde Ross & Company’s Coral Charm Peony is a semi-double, large coral-flowered peony supplied as a 3–5 eye bare root ready to establish a long-lived garden specimen.
Coral Charm is prized for its warm salmon-coral tones and generous semi-double blooms that open early in warm regions. Sold as a bare root with 3–5 eyes, this variety is bred for reliable flowering and vigorous clump formation. It thrives in full sun with some afternoon shade and adapts well across hardiness zones when planted with good drainage.
Coral Charm is among the earlier peonies to flower in warmer climates, typically blooming in late spring to early summer depending on local temperatures. Cooler climates may see a slightly later bloom time. Expect season-to-season variation based on winter chill and spring warmth.
Plant the 3–5 eye bare root so the eyes (buds) are no more than 1–2 inches below soil level; deeper planting delays or prevents flowering. Choose a site with full morning sun and some afternoon shade, and use rich, well-draining soil to prevent rot.
Once planted, Coral Charm requires basic seasonal care: moderate watering during establishment and flowering, a mulch layer to conserve moisture, and a light feed in early spring. Cut back foliage after frost in autumn to reduce disease risks and tidy the bed.
Coral Charm produces large, showy blooms on sturdy stems and forms a clump that expands over several years. Expect mature clumps to reach wide and tall proportions, depending on site fertility and spacing.
Who is this peony best for? Coral Charm suits gardeners who want early-season, coral-colored blooms with semi-double form and a reliable perennial habit. It fits well in mixed borders, cottage gardens, and cutting gardens for bouquets. Because it is shipped as a 3–5 eye bare root, it’s ideal for gardeners comfortable planting dormant roots who want a cost-effective way to establish a long-lived specimen.
Q: How deep should I plant the Coral Charm bare root?
A: Plant the eyes 1–2 inches below soil surface; deeper planting can inhibit flowering.
Q: When will a bare root Coral Charm produce full blooms?
A: You should see strong flowering in years 2–4, with reliable blooms once the clump is established.
