JK Global Imports Pumice is a coarse, 1/4" natural mineral aggregate sold in a 20-quart recycled bag, designed to improve drainage, aeration, and long-term structure in mixes for bonsai, succulents, cacti, alocasia, monstera and other tropical aroids.
This pumice is a non-decomposing volcanic rock sourced in the U.S.A., selected for its consistent 1/4" particle size that balances water retention with rapid drainage. Gardeners and growers use pumice to loosen dense soils, prevent compaction, and create a stable, oxygen-rich root zone without introducing salts or organic breakdown. Packaged by The Bonsai Supply, the 20-quart bag arrives ready to blend with potting mixes or to be sprinkled as a top dressing for aesthetics and moisture control.
When added to potting soil, pumice increases porosity so water flows freely while small pockets retain moisture for roots. It stabilizes the structure of mixes so they resist compaction over time, keeping air pathways open for healthier root respiration.
Yes—its 1/4" particle size is versatile enough for shallow bonsai containers, gritty succulent mixes, and airy tropical blends for alocasia and monstera. Different plants require different proportions, but the same pumice can be tailored to each by adjusting the ratio with organic compost or bark.
Pumice is heavier and more durable than perlite, so it stays put in pots and doesn't float when watered. Unlike organic bark, pumice does not break down, meaning it preserves drainage and structure for years rather than months.
Who is this for? This 20-quart pumice bag is aimed at home growers, hobbyist bonsai enthusiasts, succulent and cactus collectors, and houseplant caretakers who want a reliable, U.S.-sourced aggregate to improve soil structure and root health. It suits anyone mixing their own potting blends, repotting mature specimens, or applying a durable top dressing to reduce evaporation and prevent soil compaction. If you need an inert, long-lasting medium that keeps roots aerated and pots stable, this pumice delivers a durable, low-maintenance solution.
Features at a glance:
Q: What particle size is this pumice and why does it matter?
A: This pumice is 1/4" (approx. 6 mm). That size balances drainage and moisture retention, suitable for bonsai, succulents, and aroid mixes.
Q: How much pumice should I add to my potting mix?
A: Use 10–50% pumice: 40–60% for cacti/succulents, 20–40% for tropical aroids, and 10–30% for standard potting blends.
