Green Promise Farms' 'Blue Moon' is a hardy native Wisteria prized for showy 8–10" clusters of lavender‑blue blooms in late spring, often repeating into summer. Suited to USDA Zones 3–8, this cultivar combines vigorous but manageable growth with strong flower production, fragrant nectar that attracts butterflies and pollinators, and attractive foliage that provides shelter for songbirds. It performs best on a sturdy arbor, trellis, or pergola and arrives fully rooted and ready to plant in a #2 size container.
This selection reaches approximately 15–25 feet tall with a 5–10 foot spread at maturity, so allocate a substantial vertical and horizontal footprint. It climbs readily and needs a solid support structure to display its long flower racemes and maintain healthy form.
'Blue Moon' favors full sun to produce the most abundant blooms, though it tolerates part shade and still grows well. Plant in well‑draining to moist soils, position the #2 container plant immediately upon arrival (weather permitting), and give it a strong support structure to climb toward light.
This cultivar is nearly low‑maintenance but does respond to light, strategic pruning; excessive cutting can promote leafy growth rather than blooms. Minimal routine care, correct support, and occasional shaping after flowering will keep the vine attractive without sacrificing floral display.
This Wisteria suits gardeners who want dramatic spring and summer color paired with fragrant nectar to attract pollinators, without the extreme invasiveness of some Wisteria varieties. It's ideal for homeowners with sturdy outdoor structures, native plant enthusiasts seeking wildlife value, and anyone in cooler climates wanting a reliably blooming vine.
Delivered in a #2 size container and fully rooted for immediate planting when conditions allow, Green Promise Farms' Wisteria macrostachya 'Blue Moon' offers showy, fragrant racemes, dependable hardiness into northern zones, and useful habitat value for native insects and songbirds. Give it a solid support and sunny spot for maximum performance.
Q: Is 'Blue Moon' Wisteria hardy in cold climates?
A: Yes. Wisteria macrostachya 'Blue Moon' is hardy to USDA Zone 3 and performs reliably in colder regions.
Q: Will this vine take over my garden?
A: No. 'Blue Moon' grows vigorously but is less aggressive than many Wisteria varieties and is easier to manage.
