Rosa rugosa from Green Promise Farms is a hardy, low-maintenance rugosa rose with large pink blooms that repeat through summer and tolerates difficult, coastal-like sites.
Also called rugosa rose, this selection is valued for toughness and abundant pink flowers across the growing season. Supplied in a #2 size container and fully rooted, the plant ships with planting and care notes so you can set it in the landscape immediately when weather allows. Rugosa roses are native-adapted shrubs often used for windbreaks, erosion control, hedging, or a fragrant, long-blooming accent.
This variety is particularly resilient on windy, sandy, or salt-spray exposed sites—traits that make it a go-to for seashore planting. Its leathery foliage and vigorous root system help it tolerate tough conditions where many ornamentals struggle.
The plant arrives fully rooted in a #2 container, ready to be placed into the ground when conditions are suitable. In USDA zones 2–7 it typically reaches 3–4 feet in height with a 5–7 foot spread, so allow room for its wide, mounding habit.
Rosa rugosa prefers full sun for the best flower production but will tolerate light shade. Water regularly until established; after that it is drought-tolerant and performs with low maintenance. Pruning is minimal—remove dead wood and shape after flowering to maintain health and airflow.
This rugosa produces large pink flowers that appear repeatedly through the summer, delivering steady color and fragrance. In late fall the plant will naturally go dormant and lose leaves; it reliably leafs out again in spring without special intervention.
Who is this for: Gardeners, coastal property owners, and landscapers seeking a long-blooming, low-care shrub for windward sites, erosion control, hedging, or informal flowering borders. If you need a tough, attractive rose that tolerates salt, poor soils, and exposure while providing season-long blooms and hips for wildlife, this Rosa rugosa in a #2 container is an excellent choice.
Q: When can I plant the Rosa rugosa from the #2 container?
A: Plant when soil is workable and frost danger has passed; the #2 is fully rooted and ready if weather permits.
Q: Does this rugosa tolerate salt and poor soils?
A: Yes—this cultivar is known for salt spray tolerance and performs well in sandy or challenging soils.
