Also called Sweet Autumn Clematis, this variety blooms later in the season when many other plants are winding down, filling fences, trellises and arbors with small, 1-inch white flowers and a light scent. It tolerates sun to part shade, is low-maintenance, and in mild climates can retain evergreen foliage. Each plant ships established in an 8" container and can be planted outdoors as soon as conditions permit.
Clematis paniculata is adaptable and grows well in both full sun and part shade. It will produce heavier bloom when it receives more sun, but will still flower reliably with afternoon shade or dappled light. Gardeners in hotter regions may appreciate some afternoon shade to reduce stress.
Plant directly from the 8" container into well-draining soil, positioning the crown slightly below the soil line to encourage healthy roots. Provide a support structure for twining growth and water regularly until established; afterward it becomes forgiving of occasional dryness. Prune lightly in late winter or early spring to shape and remove weak growth.
Sweet Autumn Clematis blooms late in the season, typically starting in September and continuing through October. Flowers are numerous, about 1 inch across, and create a cloud of white across the vine that adds late-season interest and a subtle fragrance. The bloom display is especially valuable when other plants are fading.
Who is this plant for? Gardeners seeking an easy-care climber that provides a dramatic late-season bloom will appreciate Clematis paniculata from Green Promise Farms. It fits well in mixed borders, cottage gardens, or trained up structures to create privacy and height. Because it ships in an 8" container and tolerates a range of light conditions, it’s suitable for both beginning gardeners and experienced landscapers looking to extend color and fragrance into autumn.
Q: Can Clematis paniculata grow in pots or containers?
A: Yes—this 8" container plant can remain in a larger pot; use well-draining mix and a support for climbing.
Q: Which USDA zones are best for Sweet Autumn Clematis?
A: It performs well in USDA Zones 4–8, with evergreen tendency in milder zone edges.
