When the power goes out, this pre‑wired HomeLink transfer switch provides a clean, code‑compliant method to route generator power into your home panel for essential loads. Designed for indoor mounting beside your main breaker, the 50‑amp unit supports full 120/240V single‑phase service so you can include high‑draw 240V appliances like well pumps, dryers, and some HVAC equipment. The kit integrates a mechanical interlock for user safety and an easy path to a future automatic standby upgrade.
This model supports up to 12,000 watts at 120/240V single‑phase, so it accommodates both heavy 240V appliances and multiple 120V circuits during outages. It outperforms a 30‑amp manual switch, which is limited to about 7,200 watts and cannot feed 240V double‑pole loads.
Out of the box the transfer switch is configured for 10 hard‑wired circuits — enough to cover common essentials like heating, refrigeration and lights. If you need more capacity, interchangeable breakers allow expansion up to 16 circuits without redoing wiring, giving flexibility as needs change.
The HomeLink 50A is compatible with any portable generator offering a 50‑amp CS6377 or equivalent GFCI‑protected outlet and is multi‑listed for common breaker brands. Safety comes from a mechanical interlock that physically prevents utility and generator contacts from being closed at the same time, avoiding dangerous backfeed; a licensed electrician should perform line‑side connections and install the required 50A two‑pole breaker in the main panel.
The transfer switch enclosure is NEMA 1 and intended for protected indoor mounting next to the main service panel; the optional power inlet box in kit 9855 is NEMA 3R for outdoor wall mounting. The package includes the pre‑wired switch panel, indicator lights, wiring harness, conduit fittings and a pre‑wired whip; the outdoor inlet and generator cord are part of the 9855 kit.
Who is this for? The Generac HomeLink 50‑amp manual transfer switch is aimed at homeowners who want a safe, code‑compliant way to power essential circuits from a portable generator, especially when 240V loads (well pumps, dryers, HVAC) or more than a handful of circuits must be backed up. It’s a practical choice for those planning to expand circuit coverage later or move to an automatic standby system in the future, provided installation is completed by a licensed electrician.
Q: Do I need a 50‑amp or 30‑amp transfer switch?
A: Choose 50A if you will back up any 240V appliance or more than about eight circuits; 30A cannot support 240V double‑pole loads and maxes near 7,200W.
Q: Can I upgrade this manual switch to automatic standby later?
A: Yes — the HomeLink platform can be converted to automatic standby (for up to an 11 kW Generac) by replacing the controller without swapping the transfer switch.
