Espoma Organic Soil Acidifier is a granular, elemental sulfur-based amendment designed to lower soil pH for acid-loving plants and help turn hydrangea blooms blue.
Gardeners who need to make alkaline or neutral soils more suitable for acid-preferring plants will find this product useful. Formulated with elemental sulfur and gypsum, this Espoma-approved organic input helps reduce soil pH gradually and safely when applied according to instructions. It’s produced in the USA and approved for organic gardening, making it a practical choice for home beds, containers, and landscape plantings that favor acidic conditions.
The elemental sulfur in this blend oxidizes in the soil, creating mild acidity over time that gradually lowers pH. Gypsum in the formula helps with soil structure and calcium without raising pH, so the product adjusts acidity without stressing plants when used correctly.
Yes—reducing soil pH can encourage Mophead and Lacecap hydrangeas to produce bluer flower pigments. Success depends on initial soil pH, aluminum availability, and consistent application; extremely alkaline soils may require repeated treatments or additional measures.
Use it for acid-loving ornamentals and edibles such as azaleas, rhododendrons, blueberries, camellias, evergreens, strawberries, and other acid-preferring species. It’s suitable for garden beds and container plantings when you need consistent acidic conditions over the growing season.
Espoma Soil Acidifier is registered as an Organic Input Material and meets organic production standards, making it acceptable for certified organic operations when used per guidelines. It’s made by Espoma, a long-standing producer of natural organic gardening products in the USA.
Who is this for: Home gardeners, organic growers, and landscapers seeking a reliable way to lower soil pH for acid-loving plants and to influence hydrangea flower color. Ideal for people who prefer organic-approved amendments and want gradual, manageable changes to soil acidity rather than quick chemical shifts.
