Doter Aquatic Soil is a nutrient-rich clay substrate designed to anchor and feed water plants like lotus and water lily while remaining safe for fish and other aquatic life.
Whether you are building a small pond, decorating an aquarium, or establishing a planted water garden, the right substrate makes the difference. Doter’s 11lb aquatic soil blends clay-based particles, organic nutrients and beneficial microbes to create a stable, moisture-retaining bed that encourages root development and helps maintain balanced water conditions without introducing harmful additives.
The formula supplies a measured mix of macro- and micronutrients that roots can access over time, promoting steady, healthy development. Its clay matrix holds nutrients close to roots while slow-release properties reduce the need for frequent fertilization.
Doter’s substrate is formulated for enhanced stability so plants remain anchored even in gentle currents or with digging fish. The particle size and clay content help bind grains together, reducing clouding and shifting.
This soil is made from eco-conscious ingredients and avoids harmful chemicals, making it suitable for tanks, ponds and small water features. It supports a balanced microbe community, which helps maintain water quality when used as directed.
Install a 2–4 inch layer for most planted setups, deeper for large tubers like lotus. Rinse lightly if you prefer lower initial turbidity, place plants or rhizomes into the substrate, and allow time for roots to establish before heavy feeding or high flow.
Who this product is for: Aquarists, water-garden hobbyists and landscapers creating small ponds or planted tanks who want a reliable, eco-friendly substrate that encourages root growth, retains moisture and minimizes disturbance. If you grow lotus, water lilies, marginal plants or rooted aquarium species and need a clay-based soil that’s safe for fish and suited to both indoor and outdoor water environments, Doter Aquatic Soil is formulated to meet those needs.
Q: Can I use Doter soil directly in my aquarium without a barrier?
A: Yes. You can use it directly, but a thin capped gravel layer can reduce cloudiness and make future maintenance easier.
Q: How deep should I layer the soil for lotus or water lilies?
A: For lotus or large rhizomes, use a deeper bed of 3–6 inches; most marginal plants do well in 2–4 inches.
