The CHAPIN 8701B Push Seeder is a walk-behind row planter that marks, opens, drops, and covers seeds in prepared garden soil for faster, straighter planting.
Designed for small-scale vegetable plots and backyard vegetable beds, the Chapin push seeder reduces bending and repetitive strain by combining four planting tasks into one smooth push. A 1.5-liter rust-resistant poly hopper feeds seed plates while a zinc plow opens a trench and a wide rear wheel covers and firms the row. With six interchangeable seed plates and an adjustable row marker, this tool adapts to many common garden seeds and spacing needs.
The unit uses six removable seed plates that control seed flow and spacing so you can plant a variety of vegetables without hand-seeding. Swap plates quickly to match seed size and distribution for consistent planting density.
One pass with the Chapin seeder performs four tasks: it marks the next row, cuts a shallow furrow with a zinc plow, meters seed into the trench, and replaces soil with the rear wheel that firms the seedbed. This workflow speeds planting and helps maintain uniform rows across the garden.
Built on a powder-coated steel frame with cushioned grips, the seeder is engineered to resist rust and wear under normal home garden use. The row marker is adjustable to set consistent spacing between passes, and Chapin provides technical support and a limited warranty for peace of mind.
Who this tool is for: The CHAPIN 8701B is ideal for home gardeners, community plots, and small-market growers who want to speed planting while improving row consistency. It’s best used in prepared, loose garden beds rather than hard-packed or rocky ground; gardeners who value reduced bending and repeatable spacing will get the most benefit.
Before use, always read the manual for correct assembly and plate selection, and test on a short row to confirm spacing for each seed type. For assembly questions or parts support contact Chapin technical support or visit chapinmfg.com.
Q: Which seeds work with the CHAPIN 8701B seed plates?
A: Six plates handle up to 20 seed types including corn, peas, beans, carrots, lettuce, onions, radishes, and squash-sized seeds.
Q: Can I use the seeder on compacted or rocky soil?
A: It performs best in prepared, loose garden soil; compacted or very rocky ground reduces effectiveness and may damage the plow.
