Bonnie Plants German Thyme is a compact, cold-hardy culinary herb sold as a 4-pack of live plants that deliver intensely aromatic leaves for cooking, containers, and borders.
German thyme (sometimes called winter thyme) is a tiny-leaved variety prized for its strong fragrance and concentrated flavor. It’s a versatile perennial in USDA zones 5–9, remaining evergreen or semi-evergreen depending on winter severity, and it’s a classic ingredient in bouquet garni and Herbes de Provence blends. These Bonnie Plants arrive ready to transplant into garden beds, raised planters, or pots to provide an easy, kitchen-ready supply of thyme.
German thyme is one of the more cold-tolerant thyme varieties, making it a reliable perennial in many climates. It prefers sun but tolerates some afternoon shade, and its compact growth habit works well in herb borders, rock gardens, and container arrangements.
The small, strongly aromatic leaves concentrate flavor, so a little goes a long way in cooking. Use fresh sprigs for soups, stews, roast meats, egg dishes, and compound butters; dry or freeze extra harvests to preserve flavor for winter use.
Plant in well-draining soil, spacing plants to allow air circulation and modest spreading. Water regularly until established, then reduce frequency because thyme tolerates short dry periods better than soggy roots.
In warm, humid climates thyme can struggle in peak summer; provide afternoon shade and excellent drainage to help. In very hot or humid zones, treat it as a cool-season crop or grow in a lightly shaded container moved to cooler spots when needed.
Who is this product for? Gardeners who want a dependable, flavorful culinary thyme with strong aroma and a compact habit will appreciate this Bonnie Plants 4-pack. It’s ideal for home cooks, container gardeners, beginners seeking low-maintenance herbs, and anyone who wants fresh seasoning close to the kitchen. Because these plants are hardy in a wide range of climates and perfect for classic herb blends like bouquet garni, they’re a practical addition to herb beds, edible landscapes, and small urban gardens.
Q: Are these Bonnie German thyme plants perennial in my area?
A: They are perennial in USDA zones 5–9; in zone 10 treat them as a cool-season annual or provide summer relief.
Q: How often should I harvest leaves from these thyme plants?
