Enjoy homegrown Red Delicious apples from a compact, 2–3' live apple tree shipped in a 1-gallon pot.
The American Plant Exchange Live Red Delicious Apple Tree brings seasonal beauty and edible harvests to patios, small yards, and garden beds. This deciduous tree delights with pink spring blossoms, summer foliage, and fall fruit while remaining manageable for gardeners in USDA zones 4–8. Shipped in a 1-gallon pot at 2–3 feet tall, it’s an accessible choice for beginners and experienced growers who want fresh apples without a large orchard.
Young grafted apple trees typically begin bearing within a few years. Expect the initial crop to be light the first 1–3 seasons as the tree establishes a strong root and branch structure; fuller yields often arrive by years four through six depending on care and local climate.
Care is straightforward: plant in full sun, water regularly while establishing, and prune annually to shape and encourage fruiting wood. Mulching and periodic fertilization help support steady growth and healthier apples, while cold-hardy performance makes it suitable across many temperate climates.
Plants are watered and carefully wrapped before shipment to protect roots and foliage. Open and inspect your tree immediately upon arrival; allow 3–4 weeks for it to acclimate before repotting to reduce transplant shock.
Red Delicious is a classic, sweet apple variety favored for fresh eating and home orchards; paired with American Plant Exchange’s nursery experience, you receive a healthy starter tree from a reputable, family-run grower. The nursery also supports a community skills program, adding social value to your purchase.
Who this tree is for: gardeners who want a low-maintenance, decorative fruit tree for patios, small yards, or beginning orchards; homeowners seeking fresh eating apples without large-scale planting; and gift buyers looking for a living present that grows over years. If you live in USDA zones 4–8 and can provide full sun with well-drained soil, this 2–3' Red Delicious in a 1-gallon pot is a practical, rewarding addition to your outdoor space.
Q: When should I plant my 1-gallon Red Delicious apple tree?
A: Plant in early spring or late winter after the last hard frost for best root establishment and growth.
Q: Does this tree need a pollinator to set fruit?
A: While some Red Delicious strains self-fertile, planting a different compatible apple nearby improves fruit set and yield.
