The Ambient Weather WS-YG501 combines a five-bubble Galileo thermometer, a framed hygrometer, and a glass water barometer into an elegant 11.4-inch desktop weather display.
This three-in-one instrument pairs classic science with decorative design: a sealed Galileo tube that reads approximate temperature by floating glass spheres, a wood-framed analog hygrometer for relative humidity, and a globe-style glass barometer with a visible spout that reacts to air pressure. Its compact footprint and walnut-style base make it suitable for desks, mantels, or shelves where you want both function and a vintage look.
The Galileo thermometer uses five hand-blown glass spheres inside a sealed tube filled with paraffin oil. Each sphere carries a calibrated metal tag that acts as a counterweight; as liquid density shifts with temperature, some spheres float and others sink, and the lowest floating sphere indicates the approximate temperature.
The barometer is a sealed globe with a narrow spout open to the atmosphere. When external air pressure rises or falls, liquid shifts between the body and the spout; a low spout level corresponds to higher pressure and fair conditions, while a high spout level suggests lower pressure and unsettled weather.
The unit includes an analog hygrometer mounted in a wood frame that displays relative humidity as a simple, familiar dial reading. It provides an easy-to-read estimate of indoor humidity to help you monitor comfort and storage conditions without electronic interfaces.
What you’ll get is a decorative, science-based tabletop station that communicates temperature, humidity, and pressure trends in a tactile, analog way. The unit ships with a one-year Ambient Weather warranty and requires you to add water to the barometer globe (distilled water recommended; coloring optional). Because the Galileo spheres are hand-blown and individually calibrated, readings are visual approximations rather than laboratory-grade numbers.
Who is this for? The WS-YG501 is ideal for people who appreciate classic scientific instruments and want a compact, attractive weather display for a home office, study, or living room. It suits hobbyists who enjoy analog devices, educators demonstrating buoyancy and density, and anyone seeking a conversation-ready decorative piece that also provides basic, intuitive weather cues.
Q: Do I need to add water to the barometer?
A: Yes. Add clean water (distilled recommended) to the glass barometer; food coloring can be used for color but is optional.
Q: How do I read the Galileo thermometer?
A: Read the lowest floating glass bulb’s metal tag; that tag shows the approximate current temperature within its 64ºF–80ºF range.
