Whether you grow vegetables, ornamentals, or container plants, choosing the right frost cloth makes a big difference when temperatures dip. This Abimars plant blanket combines a denser 98% polypropylene fabric with a UV-stabilizing additive to give season-extending protection without the drawbacks of plastic sheets. Lightweight and cut-to-fit, it offers a balance of insulation, breathability, and durability for year-round garden use.
The thicker 1.77 oz/yd² fabric provides measurable insulation at night, helping reduce the risk of frost damage by retaining daytime warmth and reducing radiative heat loss. It's engineered to provide up to several degrees of protection compared with exposed plants, making it suitable for light to moderate freezes.
No. The nonwoven polypropylene is porous and light-transmitting so plants still receive sunlight for photosynthesis while gaining shelter from cold nights. Because it does not cling like plastic, foliage breathes and excess moisture drains away rather than condensing on leaves.
Compared with thinner 0.74 oz/yd² covers, Abimars’ thicker material resists tearing and provides superior insulation and longevity. Unlike plastic tarps, this fabric breathes, prevents moisture pooling, and has UV protection built into the fibers so it won’t break down quickly under sun exposure.
Cut the cover to fit beds, rows, or containers and secure edges with soil, clips, or landscape staples to prevent wind lift. For taller plants or to avoid leaf contact, support the fabric with wire hoops or stakes. After the season, shake off debris, fold or roll dry, and store in a cool, dry place.
Who is this for? Home gardeners, small-scale market growers, and landscapers who need a robust, reusable frost cloth that balances insulation with breathability will find this Abimars cover helpful. It’s especially useful for protecting vegetable rows, young shrubs, and container plants in climates with occasional freezes, and for gardeners who prefer a durable, UV-stable alternative to thin covers or plastic sheets.
Q: Can I leave the Abimars cover on during the day?
A: Yes. The breathable fabric lets light and rain through, so daytime placement is fine for light protection and stress reduction.
Q: How do I secure the edges against wind?
A: We recommend soil, landscape staples, or weights at the edges and occasional ties to stakes or hoops for windy sites.
